    Watch A Scout-Cam Video

Scout-Cam is a wireless, battery powered camera network made from 1 to 30 or more credit-card sized cameras, which take pictures on timed intervals and send those pictures back to a hub connected to your local PC. Images are compared for changes, changes are highlighted, and can be uploaded to free, on-line services such as Twitter, Picasaweb, and FLICKR for viewing on a cell phone. The cameras can send images over long ranges, up to several hundred yards (500 Yards) line of sight to the hub. The image intervals can be adjusted down to 2 seconds for almost real-time status checking, or up to several days for very slow changing items. The weather-resistant cameras can be placed inside or outside. Check in on the status of things, see what's happened recently upstairs or outside, or make sure the kids are still out back. The battery life will be almost 3 months on 2 fresh AAA cells at 40 pictures per day. Cameras can also be "wall" powered. Start off with a 2-pack for $299 and add cameras to your network as needed. Setup is very simple and intuitive, your network will be up and running in 20 minutes.  Scout-Cam is coming in the first half of 2010 from Simpleworks.com.

Do you already have a security system but would like to extend the coverage areas? Are you going out of town for a few days? Scout-Cam networks can provide peace of mind while you’re away.

Applications range from stake outs (heavy use of cameras and images); to keeping tabs on your warehouse and home; to timelapse. The “Whistleblower” application was built based on inputs from the private-eye community. Here you would have 1 camera take VGA images every 2 seconds or so while monitoring a thing of interest like a cash register, safe, or lock box. Then, when the Whistleblower camera detects changes between images, it will turn on all the other cameras in the network to grab images from multiple angles. You have the ability to configure each camera to upload all, none, or just changed images to Twitter, Picasaweb, and FLICKR where you can easily view them on your cell phone. Each of these services enables you to share or keep images private. Using Twitter, you would monitor the Scout-Cam account with another Twitter account to get alerted right away.

Scout-Cam can be wall powered using the supplied power supply for demanding applications such as the “Whistleblower” camera.

You can simultaneously monitor multiple networks by directing the images to a common account in Picasaweb, FLICKR, or Twitter on the web.
